6 Items You Should Never Put Inside a Furnished Condo

Being able to buy or rent a furnished apartment can be a very easy way to start living in a new city, or simply trade up from where you used to live. Many of these furnished condos are furnished with modern appliances, furniture and decorations, however, there are some big no-nos when it comes to how a furnished condo should look.

Here are 6 of the biggest mistakes that we see in decorated condos. We always avoid these in our units and we suggest that you think twice about moving into a place that has any of the following.

1. Plants

Well, it’s not exactly a deal breaker, as plants can look good as long as they gel with the overall design of the place. An arrangement of potted plants can make a place feel a little old-fashioned. If you want to take the time to look after plants then it’s no problem. Although you probably want to buy them yourself. Having plants forced upon you can be a little annoying, especially if you don’t want the extra responsibility of keeping a plant alive.

2. Carpets with busy patterns

You have your own style, you don’t want to have to look at a rug that is multicoloured and faded because that particular style went out of fashion several decades ago. If you are expected to look at a carpet you hate every day, this may not be the condo or landlord for you. It’s better if you look for a furnished apartment that uses more neutral or a more modern colour palette.

3. Open shelves

These can look nice if they are decorated with one or two nice pieces. However, for the storage space that is needed most, clients need wardrobes and cupboards. Keeping items on shelves so that every guest can see is not a good look. The modern man or woman like yourself needs a home that has sleek lines and plenty of closed storage space for all of their clothes and other items.

4. Books

A furnished apartment is one thing, but the landlord should never leave behind any personal items such as books. They are taking up valuable storage space for your possessions. As you are renting the space, there is no reason for the owner to leave behind anything that impedes your use of any storage space or surface.

5. IKEA furniture

Wait, wait! Hear us out. IKEA has some great stuff. But their cheaper stuff is no good at all. If you are able to identify if a piece of furniture is from IKEA from across the room, it really shouldn’t be in a furnished apartment. The same can be said of furniture from any manufacturer. Just make sure that the furniture that you have in any furnished condo will give the right impression to your guests.

6. Weird Art

This is basically anything that you personally don’t like the look of. If it belongs to the owner, they’re not going to want you to take it down, they probably love it! So what do you do? Well if you don’t like the look of their art you can either tell them you don’t want it in your home or look elsewhere. You should ask yourself if you are able to put up with it for as long as you’re going to be there. If it is only for a short time, then great. If you are going to be looking at art you hate every morning for months on end, this place may not be the best option for you.
